Suspects in Historic House burglary and vandalism identified

The Section Foreman’s house was recently relocated and renovated with a $175,000 grant.

Fellsmere, FL (TreasureCoast.com) Investigators identified two suspects in the burglary and vandalism to the City of Fellsmere “section foreman’s” house. This is an historic structure that was recently relocated and renovated with a $175,000 grant. 

The suspects have been identified as two juvenile males. They are ages 15 and 14 who are Fellsmere residents and students at Sebastian River High School.  The crime occurred sometime between Thursday, 12/21/2017, at 8:00 am and Saturday, 12/23/2017, at 08:00 am. 

Investigators received a tip from an anonymous source that one of the juveniles posted themselves committing the crime on “Snapchat”.  The tipster then came forward with the information after seeing a post about the crime and pictures of the damage on the Fellsmere Police Department’s Facebook page.

Both suspects confessed to their involvement during an interview with a detective and the matter has been referred to the Office of the State Attorney for prosecution.  The cost to repair the damage (materials and labor) was $350.00 

The members of the Fellsmere Police Department would like to commend the tipster for coming forward with information to solve this crime.

Burglary to historic structure:

Sometime between Thursday, 12/21/2017, at 8:00 am and Saturday, 12/23/2017, at 08:00 am, someone forcibly entered the historic “Section Foreman’s” house located on S. Carolina Avenue between 134th Ct. and Babcock and vandalized the building by spray painting an interior wall. The window was then forcibly entered was also spray painted.

The Section Foreman’s house is the oldest structure in Fellsmere, built around the turn of last century, and is the last remaining building of the railroad village that once existed along South Carolina Avenue. It was recently re-located and renovated through a grant received by the City of Fellsmere and will serve as the anchor building for the future “railroad village” to be constructed in the area.
