Suspect shot, killed by deputies after carjacking at Walmart in Vero Beach

Vero Beach, FL (treasurecoast.com)- A 43-year-old man who was shoplifting at Walmart tried to steal a car in the parking lot. The man, who had a warrant for his arrest out of Virginia, shot two people in the car before stealing a second car. The people shot were visiting in Indian River and buying groceries.

The incident happened just before 6 p.m. outside the Walmart located at the corner of State Road 60 and 58th Avenue.

The shoplifting protection team at Walmart had already called deputies. A deputy tried to taze the suspect in the Walmart parking lot, but the suspect pulled a weapon.

Two people are injured and the suspect is dead.

According to the sheriff’s office, the man tried to get into a vehicle and shot two people inside the vehicle when he could not get in and the vehicle took off.

The suspect entered another vehicle and drove to an Auto Zone, where he was shot and killed by a deputy.

60 is closed in both directions.
