Suspect in June fatal hit and run identified, arrested by FPPD

Fort Pierce police traffic investigators have identified and arrested a suspect in a fatal hit and run crash that occurred June 2 on U.S. Highway 1 in Fort Pierce.

On that date at 10:36 p.m., officers were called to a hit and run crash in the 3200 block of U.S. Highway 1. They found a man there lying in the road with numerous injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene by St. Lucie County Fire Rescue and was identified as Timothy Sandblom, 59.

Sandblom had a driver license from Maine on him. He was staying at the Red Roof Inn near the scene of the crash. He was crossing the street heading back to his hotel from a convenience store when he was hit by a southbound vehicle.

Investigators found debris in the road from a dark green Ford F-150 pickup truck. Subsequent investigation led to the truck’s owner, Wislet Andre, 48, of the 100 block of S.E. Tunison Avenue in Port St. Lucie. The debris from the road exactly matched front end damage on Andre’s vehicle, which was impounded by officers as the investigation proceeded.

On Wednesday, an arrest warrant was issued for Andre and officers arrested him without incident at his home with the help of the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office. He was charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident Involving Death and was brought to the St. Lucie County Jail, where he remains on a $250,000 bond.
