Stuart: Toddler accidentally shoots man in the head

Stuart, Fl (treasurecoast.com- An investigation is underway in Stuart after a toddler allegedly shot a man in the head accidentally.

According to Stuart Police, the incident happened on Saturday.

Stuart Police responded to an emergency call for service. When they arrived, they found a man was shot in the head.

He was airlifted to the hospital, where he is currently in critical condition.

After a thorough investigation conducted with the State Attorney’s Office and the Stuart Police Department, it was determined that a toddler in the home accidentally shot the male victim. Unfortunately, the loaded firearm was placed on a countertop that was within the child’s reach unsecured.

Officials said the loaded gun was on a countertop that was within the child’s reach and it was unsecured.

The Stuart Police Department would like to remind everyone to ALWAYS safely secure unattended firearms.
According to everytownresearch.org, 60 children 3 years of age or younger have accidentally shot themselves or someone else as a result of an improperly stored firearm in 2020.
The Stuart Police ask you to  do your part and secure firearms. It is the law, but more importantly it saves lives.
