Stuart Police Arrest Vehicle Burglary Suspect

Stuart, Fla- A Port St Lucie man is accused of breaking into a van, and then pushing his way into an apartment to try and get away from the cops.

On Monday, February 26, 2018, Stuart Police investigated a vehicle burglary at 800 Place Condominiums.

Stuart Police say  that 33-year old Dustin Prince broke into the passenger side of a Stanley Steemer work van, and stole a bag with several checks and $43 in cash. Employees confronted him, but he pulled a pocket knife on them and walked away towards a nearby apartment complex.

The tenant of the apartment reported that he was asleep and woke up to the banging at the door. When he answered the door, Prince pushed his way inside and said “they are after me don’t call the cops.” At this point, Prince began breaking his own phone and other items. The tenant told Prince to leave, but Prince refused to do so. The tenant then called for the police and Prince was found locked inside the bathroom in the apartment. Prince was safely taken into custody without incident and arrested for Vehicle Burglary. Prince was intoxicated and needed medical evaluation, prior to transporting him to jail.

The investigating officers recovered the $43.00, but the bag and knife were not recovered. The tentant refused to press charges, but Stanley Steemer wished to pursue charges for Vehicle Burglary.

Prince was cleared at the hospital and transported to the Martin County Jail. He was given a $5,000 bond.
