Stuart PD arrest armed robbery suspect after lengthy manhunt.

Florida Outdoors RV Center reported being robbed at gunpoint on August 2 at 4:49 pm. A suspect was brandishing a pistol. The suspect held employees at gunpoint. He then stole handfuls of keys for RV’s at the dealership with intentions of stealing an RV. The victims reported that the suspect grabbed one of the employees and pressed the muzzle of the pistol against his head while being dragged across the floor. Chief Dyess followed up on an earlier suspicious person call near the armed robbery location and found the suspect description matched. He found some evidence tying the suspicious person to the armed robbery. Detectives were able to get video images from the suspicious person call.

 After a nearly four hour manhunt, Stuart Police Officer Bill McGighan then found the suspect’s vehicle parked at a gas station. Chalin Christopher Merrihew was arrested. He was charged with  Armed Kidnapping, Armed Robbery with Firearm with additional charges are pending. Merrihew was transported to the Martin County Jail.

The Stuart Police thank the diligent citizens that reported the suspicious person and the surrounding neighbors who assisted with videos.
