Stuart City Commission approves mask requirement for city buildings

Stuart, Fl (treasurecoast.com) -The Stuart  City Commission Thursday approved a mask requirement for city buildings, regardless of vaccination status, and recommended people wear masks indoors while in public places.

The new policies passed during a special meeting that was called last minute in response to the recent surge in COVID-19 cases locally and statewide. It was the first meeting in months where all commissioners wore masks, and chairs in the meeting chambers were socially distanced — a signal of health officials backtracking on their previous calls to loosen precautionary measures for the vaccinated.

The commission gave City Manager David Dyess the flexibility to withdraw or reenact the mask requirement and recommendation as needed. Gov. Ron DeSantis in May signed an executive order restricting local governments from placing mask mandates on private businesses.
