St. Lucie Sheriff: Person killed in deputy-involved crash in Port St. Lucie

Port St.Lucie, Fl (treasurecoast.com) A St. Lucie County deputy was involved in a deadly crash overnight Friday in Port St. Lucie.

Here are the details:
VEHICLE/PEDESTRIAN CRASH
According to Sheriff Ken Mascara, an on-duty Sheriff’s Office deputy was involved in a fatal pedestrian crash near U.S. 1 and Village Green Dr. shortly before 1 a.m. Friday morning. The deputy, who was responding to a service call at the time of the accident, has been placed on administrative leave. Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
“We are heartbroken to learn of this tragic accident and extend our deepest sympathies to the pedestrian’s loved ones,” said Sheriff Ken Mascara. “Our thoughts and prayers are also with our deputy during this extremely difficult time.”
