St. Lucie County UF/IFAS Extension Offers Best Management Practices For Backyard Chickens March 25

 

LUCIE COUNTY – Are you interested in starting or managing a backyard-chicken farm? Join Extension Director Commercial Horticulture Agent Grantly Ricketts for an informative workshop on Saturday, March 25 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the UF/IFAS Hurricane House, located at 8350 Picos Road, Fort Pierce, Fla. 34945

Participants will learn about the best breeds of chickens that produce the most eggs per year as well as best management practices including light requirements, water and feed.

UF/IFAS Extension Director / Commercial Horticulture Agent Grantly Ricketts will led this two-hour workshop. The cost to attend is $10 per person. Residents should check with their municipal codes/ordinances or homeowners’ association rules before purchasing live chickens, as they are prohibited in some areas. Residents in the unincorporated area of St. Lucie County (outside city limits) are allowed to have backyard chickens, except for those living in the River Park subdivision.
