St. Lucie County Invites Eligible Lakewood Park Homeowners to Apply for Housing Rehabilitation Assistance

St. Lucie County has been awarded funding in the amount of $45,287 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Housing Preservation Grant (HPG) and is seeking Lakewood Park homeowners in need of minor housing repairs.

This program is designed to perform limited general home repairs and improvements for low- and very low-income homeowners. Applicants will be ranked for assistance based on a first-qualified, first-complete basis with the priority given to special needs and very low-income households. Manufactured housing is not eligible. Eligible repairs include, but are not limited to the following:

·       Installation and/or repair of sanitary water and waste disposal systems, together with related plumbing and fixtures, which will meet local health department requirements;

·       Repair or replacement of the heating system;

·        Electrical wiring repair or replacement;

·       Replacement of severely deteriorated siding, porches or stoops;

·       Alterations of the units interior or exterior to provide greater accessibility for any handicapped person.

Applications are available for pick up at the St. Lucie County Community Services Office or online at www.slchousing.org. Applications will only be accepted beginning 8 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 12 through 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 16 and may be mailed or hand delivered to St. Lucie County Community Services, Attention: Housing Division, 437 N. 7th Street, Fort Pierce, Fla. 34950 or the Lakewood Park Branch Library Attention: Housing Division, 7605 Santa Barbara Drive, Fort Pierce, Fla. 34951.
