St. Lucie County Earns Four National Achievement Awards
WASHINGTON, D.C. – For the 13th consecutive year, the National Association of Counties (NACo) recognized the St. Lucie County Board of County Commissioners with multiple awards for its programs and efforts to serve the community.
“The fact that St. Lucie County’s staff has been recognized for more than a decade for the unique programs that benefit our residents and businesses is truly impressive. What’s even more impressive is that our staff has been able to earn these awards through some of the most challenging times we’ve experienced from the housing market crash in 2010 through the global pandemic the past two years,” said St. Lucie County Commission Chair Sean Mitchell.
St. Lucie County received 2022 Achievement Awards for the following programs:
- Transit’s Advantage Ride Program in the Transportation Category. This program offers free point-to-point transportation service for resident with developmental disabilities;
- Human Resources’ Getting Ready for Opportunities at Work (G.R.O.W.) in the Training Category. This year-long program gives St. Lucie County employees the ability to learn more about different departments and help them become well-rounded county leaders;
- The Library’s Happy Hour Program in the Training Category. Designed for library staff, this program provides virtual learning opportunities to make sure librarians have the latest information on different digital tools available at all branch libraries.
- Planning & Development Services’ Code Amnesty Program in the Community and Economic Development Category. This program allows residents and businesses with outstanding code violations resulting in liens against their property to bring the issues into compliance and pay only 10 percent of the outstanding fine/fee.
Overall, St. Lucie County has received nearly 30 NACo Achievement Awards in the past 13 years for its various programs and services.
Nationally, awards are given in 18 different categories that reflect the vast, comprehensive services counties provide. The categories include children and youth, criminal justice and public safety, county administration, information technology, health, civic engagement and many more.
Started in 1970, NACo’s annual Achievement Awards program is designed to recognize county government innovations. Each nominee is judged on its own merits and not against other applications received.
