Spend Some Family Time at the St. Lucie County Libraries

 

ST LUCIE COUNTY – From toddlers to teens, St. Lucie County Libraries have a variety of programs to keep families engaged this February.

  • Wednesday, Feb. 2 at 2:30 p.m. – Making Excel Art at the Morningside Branch Library. Create your own masterpiece on a Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet. Most suitable for students in grades 2 and older.
  • Movie for Kids: “The Mitchells vs the Machines” on Wednesday, Feb. 2 at 3 p.m. at the Kilmer Branch. A quirky, dysfunctional family’s road trip is upended when they find themselves in the middle of the robot apocalypse and suddenly become humanity’s unlikeliest last hope. This movie is rated PG with a running time of 113 minutes.
  • S.T.E.A.M. Power! Explore the world of science, technology, engineering, art & math in a storytime. Most suited for ages 3-6.

o   Lakewood Park Branch – Thursday, Feb.  3 at 3:30 p.m.

o   Hurston Branch (Hogwarts style with Harry Potter) –  Saturday, Feb. 5 at 2 p.m.

o   Morningside Branch – Saturday, Feb. 5 at 2:30 p.m.

o   Lewis Branch – Saturday, Feb. 12 at 2:30 p.m.

  • Saturday Matinee for Kids: “Luca” on Saturday, Feb. 5 at 2:30 p.m. at the Lewis Branch. On the Italian Riviera, an unlikely but strong friendship grows between a human being and a sea monster disguised as a human. This Disney animated film is rated PG with a running time of 95 minutes.
  • S.T.E.A.M. Storytime! Explore the world of science, technology, engineering, art and math in a storytime. Most suited for ages 3-6.

o   Kilmer Branch – Wednesdays, Feb. 9 and Feb. 23 at 10:30 a.m.

  • Bi-lingual Storytime. Enjoy a bi-lingual storytime in both English and Spanish.

o   Morningside Branch (all ages) on Thursday, Feb. 10 at 10:30 a.m.

o   Lewis Branch on Friday, Feb. 18 at 10:30 a.m. (Most suited for ages 3-5 years)

  • Fall Family Fun Day on Friday, Feb. 11 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Lakewood Park Branch. Come by the library for a fun-filled afternoon of awesome fall activities from sidewalk chalk to bubbles for all ages.

Walk-in Series at Lakewood Park Branch

  • Grab n’ Go Project: A different fun craft every month. Best suited for ages 5-10. All materials supplied.
  • Boredom Busters: Help us decorate the library with your thoughts and tell us why you love your library. Suitable for kids of all ages.
  • Color Your World: Stop by the library and pick up some coloring pages. All ages welcome.

Tweens and Teens:

  • Tween Techies on Tuesday, Feb. 1 from 2:30 to 4 p.m. at the Lakewood Park Branch.  Don’t miss this fun-filled, engaging program as you explore robots and other types of technology. Best suited for ages 8-12.
  • Art in the Afternoon: DIY Valentines on Wednesday, Feb. 2 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Kilmer Branch. Early release day? Teens can drop by the teen section to handcraft Valentine’s Day cards. You supply the creativity; we supply the crafts.
  • Young Teen Time on Saturday, Feb. 19 at 2:30 p.m. at the Lewis Branch. Create magic paper art cubes. All materials supplied. Most suited for students in grades 5-8.

  • Teens Making Movies on Saturday, Feb. 19 at 2 p.m. at the Hurston Branch. Here’s your opportunity to learn how to make your own movies using your phone or camera. We’ll cover editing programs, free resources, design tips and more. Best suited for ages 11 – 18.
  • Make and Take Craft-Teen/Tween Edition on Friday, Feb. 25 at 3:30 p.m. at the Morningside Branch. Make your own Backpack Charms. Most suitable for ages 11 and older.
  • Tekken Video Tournament on PS4 at Saturday, Feb. 26 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Lewis Branch. Come see who will be victorious in Tekken. Best suited for ages 11-18.

  • Off the Chain Crochet for Teens on Tuesdays from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the Hurston Branch. Do you know how to crochet or would you like to learn? Our teen program is open to all skill levels. Learn new stitches and techniques or just come and crochet with others.

  • Roblox every Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon at the Lakewood Park Branch. Come enjoy Roblox, a virtual universe that lets you create and share experiences with your friends. Open play is available on all children’s computers. Best suited for ages up to 12.
  • Tween Tech Challenge anytime during February. The Lakewood Park Branch offers a chance to test your skills with computers and technology. This self-guided challenge takes about an hour and can be done at your leisure. Go it alone or work together to master the challenge
  • Walk-In Poetry Writing anytime at the Lakewood Park Branch. When you visit the library in February create a poem or two to take with you or to decorate the branch. Most suitable for ages 10 and older. All supplies provided.

Weekly Programs:

  • Just Baby & Me on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. at the Lewis Branch and Thursdays at the Lakewood Park Branch. Songs, stories and movement – fun for you and your baby. For infants up to 2 1/2 years.
  • Rhythm & Rhyme on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. at the Morningside Branch. Early literacy through rhymes, stories, movement and more. For ages 2 1/2 years and older.
  • Storytime Jam – Reading & Rhythm at 10:30 a.m. – Clap, dance and listen to stories. For ages 3 to 5.

o   Tuesdays at the Lakewood Park Branch

o   Thursdays at the Hurston Branch

o   Fridays at the Morningside, Lewis and Kilmer Branches

  • Music & Motion for Kids at 10:30 a.m. Action songs, movement, singing, instruments and fun for ages under 6 with caregiver.

o   Wednesdays at the Port St. Lucie Branch

o   Thursdays at the Lewis Branches

o   Fridays at the Lakewood Park and Hurston Branches

o   3rd Saturday of the month at Morningside Branch
