Brevard Sheriff’s Office Investigates Bicycle Mishap Death

On Wednesday, November 30, 2016, at approximately 3:00 a.m., Brevard County
Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the area of Bayview Drive and Royal Palm Avenue, Indian
Harbor Beach, regarding a male on the ground with an apparent head injury.
A concerned citizen called 911 after seeing the male on the ground.
Deputies located 51-year-old David Kervin, of Indian Harbor Beach, who appeared to
be involved in an isolated incident involving a bicycle mishap.
There was no evidence that any vehicles were involved. A small turtle was observed in the
area where Mr. Kervin had been traveling. The turtle had a small crack in the bottom of
the shell, which could suggest Mr. Kervin possibly had contact with the turtle causing him
to lose control of his bicycle. The turtle’s injuries were not life threatening and it was
returned to its natural habitat.
An autopsy was conducted by the Medical Examiner’s Office and the injuries are
consistent with the decedent accidentally falling from the bicycle.
