Sauder’s Landing seems like a new old friend

Located in Jensen Beach overlooking the Nettles Island Marina on the Indian River, the location alone can make you feel happy. Seated outside under a Tiki hut with the cool breeze coming off the water the only thing that makes me feel happier is the right beverage, good food and good conversation. This is very casual dining, catering to the dock and dine crowd with slips available in the marina for stowing your yacht or a regular parking lot for landlubbers.

This location has been home to restaurants for some years, the current owners took over a little more than a year ago. Not surprisingly the owners are named Sauder, Randy and Belynda run the restaurant with their two children. Daughter Samantha was our server, and the service was excellent. After a beverage bobble, the food was delivered to our ladies lunching ‘When Harry met Sally’ specifications prepared exactly as ordered.

My lunch consisted of a Caesar Salad topped with Mahi Mahi. The Mahi was lightly blackened, cooked to a perfect flakiness and served over cool Romaine coated with just the right amount of Caesar dressing then dusted with grated Parmesan. Divine Friday afternoon lunch on the water.

My dining partner had the Linguini Alfredo with a side of sauteed spinach. The pasta was cooked perfectly, not overly sauced and served as a manageably edible serving for lunch with a nice amount of Parmesan cheese on top. We both marveled as we tasted the side of sauteed spinach, fresh and prepared with a bit of garlic and maybe a touch of sesame oil.

Since it was lunchtime, I stuck to Iced tea and it pleases me to report the tea was freshly brewed and delicious. In my mind, the details make the restaurant. One of my favorite details, fresh hand cut french fries (served here) alone are a reason for me to return. The seafood tends to be New England style with Fish and Chips (made from cod), an obviously popular choice based on what was on the plates of fellow diners. Clam Chowder and Crab Cakes continue the theme. Other items on the menu include steaks (Mom and Dad sized cuts of Filet Mignon available with some magical sounding toppings), seafood, fish and shellfish with a variety of preparations. Burgers, salads and sandwiches are also available. The bar includes wine and beer and for the smaller sailors there is a Kids Menu.
