Roosevelt Bridge still closed- here is what we know!

Stuart, Florida (treasurecoast.com)- Yesterday morning we woke up to an alert that the Roosevelt Bridge was in imminent danger of collapsing.

This is what we know now:

The Roosevelt Bridge is closed both ways.

The old Roosevelt Bridge is also closed.

Mike Meier the Mayor of Stuart said this:

“UPDATE: Bridge inspectors are on their way up from Ft Lauderdale. Keep in mind that the “imminent collapse” headline was from the Coast Guard alerting boaters to the safety zone stopping maritime traffic, not from FDOT. Regardless, traffic is already becoming an issue through Jensen/Rio and Sewall’s Point as commuters avoid the bridge altogether. Consider other routes if possible.

Overnight, our City Manager alerted me to the bridge closure. Apparently a piece of concrete fell from the underside of the “new” bridge (luckily nobody was injured) and various agencies including FDOT and Stuart PD and Fire went to work immediately to protect public safety. Please take care around the area while we get more information.”
