Port St. Lucie, Fl (treasurecoast.com)-A road rage incident in Port St. Lucie has landed a 54-year old man in jail.

On November 12, 2019, fifty-four-year-old John Ruff was arrested and charged with Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon.

At around 3:15 pm, Port St. Lucie Police went to the intersection of SE Becker and NW Gilson Road to investigate a violent road rage involving two males.

According  to the police, the victim was driving north on NW Gilson Road.

He drove around John Ruff’s car to continue toward Becker Road. Then, the victim arrived at the intersection of SE Becker Road.  John Ruff drove around the victim’s car and ‘slammed’ on the brakes causing a minor car accident.

The victim exited his car to check for damages.  John Ruff then approached the victim and engaged in a verbal argument.  The arguement quickly escalated to a physical altercation between the two men.

The victim disengaged and called the police. John Ruff returned to his car and retrieved a wooden club type object. Confirmed by witnesses, John Ruff then approached the victim’s car and began striking the victim’s car multiple times, shoving the object through the front driver side window, hitting the victim and causing him injuries. The victim sustained minor injuries to include abrasions and a laceration to the forehead, however he declined medical treatment. John Ruff did not sustain any injuries and was transported to the St Lucie County Jail on the above charge.

Police urge citizens to call police immediately, if confronted with a road rage situation. Always try to keep calm, don’t react to someone else’s actions and definitely do not get caught up in using your vehicle in response to the rage.
