EAA Reservoir plan goes to Army Corp

The South Florida Water Management District has passed on plans for a reservoir south of Lake Okeechobee to the Army Corp of Engineers.

The plans call for a 23-foot deep, 10,000 acre reservoir. It could hold nearly 80 billion gallons of water, along with a 6,500 acre marsh to clean the water before it is sent south to the Everglades.

At the same time, both Senators Bill Nelson and Marco Rubio, along with 14 members of Congress including Brian Mast, signed a letter asking the Army Corps to fast track their review of the proposal. Then it can be added to the federal water projects being considered by Congress in the fall.

If that doesn’t happen it could take several years before Congress looks at it.
