Renovations at First Data Field over budget

Port St Lucie, Fl- The renovations at First Data Field in Port St Lucie are coming in over budget. There are several different items contributing to the higher than expected costs.

The elevator was expected to cost around $250,000, but it’s now expected to be over $620,000.

County offices have increased from an estimated $15,000, to over $127,000.

All told, the renovations are $1.6 million over budget.

After learning about the extra costs, county commissioners directed county attorney Dan McIntyre to negotiate with the Mets to keep the costs within the budget.

One of the ways they plan to cut costs include downgrading the planned 360-degree concourse. Instead of having the concourse stretch all the way around the field, they will only extend out the party deck from the 3rd base side around left field to the side of the video billboard.

Despite being over budget, the project is on schedule and should be finished by the time spring training begins in February.
