It is also reported the killer faced criminal charges as a teen. The information came to light after documents were released detailing Mateen’s employment with the Florida Department of Correction at the Martin Correctional Institution in Indiantown. As part of his employment application, Mateen disclosed in a letter that he had faced a charge of battery for a fight while a 14-year old at Martin County High School. The charge was dropped. Mateen worked at Martin Correctional in 2006 while enrolled at Florida Corrections Academy at Indian River State College. According to published reports, a Port St. Lucie Police Officer recommended him for the job. Mateen was involuntarily dismissed from Martin Correctional and never certified as a correctional officer. He did not complete his academic program.

At a news conference , Special Agent Ronald Hopper said authorities continue to process the shooting scene at Pulse nightclub.  U.S. Attorney Lee Bentley said he would not speculate as to any charges that may be brought or that could be brought in the case. He said it would be premature and would hamper the investigation.

The ATF this past Monday investigated the Port St Lucie Store where the guns were purchased. The owner said the weapons were purchased about a week apart and he said the purchases were made a week to ten days prior to the shooting. Henson is a retired NYPD Detective with more than 20 years of service. He said the background checks were done. He also pointed out tat you can buy a long gun on the same day but have to wait three days for a handgun.

An employee of at Lotus Gunworks said Mateen tried to buy Level 3 body armor. The store said it reported the unusual request to the FBI, weeks before the shootings. According to a manager at Lotus Gunworks, Mateen came into the store about four or five weeks ago. The workers told him they didn’t carry Level 3 body armor. Mateen also asked about buying ammunition in bulk. The store lied and said they were out of that ammo.  The owner of Lotus Gunworks, Robbie Abell, said in a news conference Thursday he reported the unusual request to the FBI.

and other gay clubs in Orlando. There were reports of him trying to hook up.

Alternet is reporting that Mateen was in fact Gay but the FBI did not want her to talk about this. You can read about that here.

“Dias told the Brazilian television station SBT Brazil Tuesday that Yusufiy believed Mateen was gay and that his father called him gay several times in front of her. However, “the FBI asked her not to tell this to the American media.” Since the attack, Mateen has been dubbed an “Islamic terrorist” by politicians, senior officials and commentators in the U.S. following reports he had pledged allegiance to the Islamic State group. However, the idea that he could have been a closet-homosexual indicates that the Orlando shooting might have been a deeply felt and personal act of hate. The FBI and law enforcement in the United States have so far been pursuing the “Islamist terrorism” angle and their alleged demand from Mateen’s ex-wife to keep mum about his homosexuality suggests they want to downplay the personal and self-hating nature of the attack in favor of the Islamic terrorism-related one.”

So far no charges have been filed against Noor Salman.  It’s been reported wthat  Mateen texted Salman about two hours after he began the assault at the Pulse night club. The source said during the shooting, Mateen texted his wife and asked if she’d seen the news. The source said the couple exchanged, “I love you.” Salman also allegedly bought ammunition with her husband, and went with him at least once to Pulse and to Disney World. Salman has maintained that she tried to stop her husband from committing the massacre.  Grand jury proceedings are secret, so there’s no way of knowing if the panel took up Salman’s case.

There has been an outpouring of support for the people of Orlando and the LGBT community from all over the world. Israeli President Rivlin said that Israel stands “shoulder to shoulder with our American Brothers and sisters.” Britain’s Queen Elizabeth sent a message saying she and Prince Philip were shocked by a the events in Orlando and sent thoughts and prayers. In France, the Eiffel tower was lit in rainbow colors.
