PSLPD: Suspects Flee From Stolen Vehicle And Swim Across Canal To Evade Arrest
Port St. Lucie, Fl (treasurecoast.com) -On Saturday, January 8 at approximately 4pm, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office observed a vehicle traveling in their county that was previously reported stolen by a PSL resident in December 2021.
MCSO Deputies attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle on I-95 but the vehicle did not stop.
The MCSO Aviation Unit followed the vehicle into Port St. Lucie. The stolen vehicle exited I-95/SW Crosstown Pkwy and began traveling east to SW Cutlass St/SW Bellevue Ave where the three occupants of the vehicle exited and fled on foot. The subjects immediately began running away from the car and swam across a canal to evade arrest. A perimeter was established and the MCSO Aviation Unit directed FHP and PSLPD Officers to where the subjects were hiding.
Officers located the three subjects who were identified as two 17 year olds and one 14 year old. They were arrested and taken to jail for grand theft of a motor vehicle and resisting without violence. PSLPD thanked MCSO and Florida Highway Patrol for their assistance in this incident.
The stolen vehicle was recovered from the scene and will be returned to its owner.
