PSLPD : Let’s Celebrate the End of 2020, Responsibly.

A message from the Port St Lucie Police

There are many reasons to celebrate the end of 2020, but let’s do so responsibly.  Some would say this has been a historic year, perhaps no New Year, has been this greatly anticipated.  We realize people are under an enormous amount of stress due to the events of 2020 (COVID-19/Record Breaking Hurricane Season).

We would like to remind our residents to celebrate responsibly.  We can accomplish this by not drinking and driving, operating a vehicle under the influence of any substance that would impair your driving, or decision making.  Pick a designated driver before leaving for the night.  Use one of the popular ride-hailing companies that are readily available.  Don’t handle a firearm or fireworks while impaired.

On Thanksgiving weekend 2020, we initiated, Operation Goodbye DUI. This was in response to an increase in serious traffic accidents, causing serious bodily injury, or even death.  On select nights, our Traffic Enforcement Officers have been conducting DUI enforcement.  This will continue throughout 2021.  Since Thanksgiving weekend, our agency, (Traffic Enforcement Officers combined with Patrol Officers as part of their normal responsibility) have made 11 DUI arrests.

Don’t start 2021 on the wrong foot, celebrate responsibly.
