PSLPD: Couple Rescued After Becoming Trapped by House Fire

Port St. Lucie, Fl (treasurecoast.com) –  The PSLPD have reported that a  couple was rescued after becoming trapped in a  house fire.
Last night at approximately 9:17pm, PSLPD responded to the 3600-BLK of SW Margela St in reference to a residential structure fire. Upon arrival on scene, Officers opened the front door and black smoke began pouring out of the residence.
PSLPD Officers entered the residence by crawling on the floor below the smoke line to locate the residents inside. The officers identified a bedroom in which a 79 year old female and 74 year old male were trapped inside. The officers were unable to reach them due to the heavy smoke and crawled out of the house with two cats they rescued during the search.
The St. Lucie County Fire District arrived on scene and were informed by officers of the bedroom location for the trapped residents. The SLC Fire District entered the house and rescued both residents.
The 74 year old male was transported to a local hospital in stable condition. The 79 year old female was transported by air rescue in critical condition but is expected to survive. PSLPD Animal Control responded for the two cats who are in stable condition.
