PSLPD: Catalytic Converter Thief Caught in the Act

Port St. Lucie, Fl (treasurecoast.com) – A Catalytic Converter Thief Caught in the Act by the Port St.Lucie Police.
On January 22, 2022, at approximately 6:20am, PSLPD responded to the 1000-BLK of SW Biltmore St in reference to a report of an in progress theft of catalytic converters. The caller advised he could hear someone trying to cut catalytic converters from underneath a car and observed sparks from the tools that the subject was using.
Officers immediately responded to the area and observed a vehicle that was parked in the wrong lane of travel in front of the location.
As officers arrived on scene, the vehicle drove away with no headlights on. Officer Kubitschek conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and while speaking to the driver observed catalytic converters, a Sawzall, mechanic gloves, and a mask in the vehicle.
Assisting officers located two vehicles that the catalytic converters were taken from.

24 year old, Aniel Diaz from Miami, was arrested for 2 counts of grand theft, 2 counts of criminal mischief, and possession of drug equipment.
Detectives are executing a search warrant on the suspect’s vehicle later today and believe there are additional catalytic converters located in the vehicle. If your vehicle was parked in the 1000-BLK of Biltmore St, please check to make sure your catalytic converter is not missing.
