PSLPD briefing on Cruz murder case

Port St. Lucie, Fla-On 12/12/17 PSLPD dispatchers received a call from Justino Cruz Jr. He told the dispatcher that he was ready to do his time and the knife was on the dresser. Justino then said he had mental issues and had quit taking his medication. Then, he told the dispatcher that his father was on floor beside the  bed and was dead.

Officers were dispatched to the residence and subsequently made entry into the residence located at 141 SW Palm Drive, APT104. The dead body was in the bedroom.

At that time the PSLPD put out an alert with the suspect description.

At 7:15, St Lucie County Dispatch was called informing them that person matching the suspects description. He was seen in the area of SW Crosstown Blvd and SW California Blvd. The suspect was then apprehended.

Cruz was transported to the PSLPD and interviewed. Cruz claimed that he had been trying to get help. He said he had been at New Horizens and mentioned schizoaffective disorder. He had taken two doses of his medication.

Then, after search warrant was obtained the body in the apartment was identified at Justino Cruz Sr There was a large, gaping wound observed on the side of his neck.

The motive is unclear. The PSLPD will continue the investigation.

In the early morning hours of December 13, 2017, PSLPD arrested 36 year old Justino Cruz Jr.  on the charge of murder.  Cruz was taken to then booked into the St. Lucie County Jail.
