PSL man charged in fatal DUI crash

 Port St Lucie, Fl- On February 21, 2018, Port St. Lucie Police arrested 22 year old Charles Anthony Moreno  pursuant to an arrest warrant for DUI-Vehicular Homicide.  Moreno was arrested without incident and taken to the St. Lucie County Jail for booking.

Moreno was later released on $50,000.00 bond.

The investigation revealed that Moreno had a blood alcohol level of .17, which is over twice the legal limit.

Original Narrative:

On January 20, 2018 at 2:17 am, Port St. Lucie Police along  County Fire/Rescue went to the 600 block of SW Port St. Lucie Boulevard investigate a two car crash.

Vehicle #1: 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe

Driver – 22 year old Charles Moreno (Port St. Lucie)

Vehicle #2: 2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser

Driver – 23 year old Alexis Etheridge (Port St. Lucie)

Preliminary investigation revealed V1 traveling west in the 600 block of SW Port St Lucie Blvd.  V2 was on SW Del Rio making a right turn onto SW Port St Lucie Boulevard.  As V2 was making its turn it was t-boned on the left side by V1.  V1 sustained heavy damage and the driver, Alexis Etheridge was mortally wounded from the impact of the crash and pronounced dead on scene by fire rescue. 

Driver of V1, Charles Moreno, was unresponsive on scene and transported to Lawnwood Medical Center as a trauma alert due to his injuries.  Moreno is currently at the hospital in stable condition.

Initial investigation and roadway evidence indicates that Moreno was traveling at a high rate of speed when the crash occurred.  Port St. Lucie Police Traffic Homicide Investigators are continuing the investigation of this fatal crash.
