PSL man arrested for mail order pot

PSL man arrested for mail order pot.

A package mailed from overseas and addressed to a man in Port St. Lucie led to his arrest on drug charges.

The investigation began last month when Port St. Lucie Police received an alert from an agent with Homeland Security Investigation about a package from Slovenia.

The package had arrived at the JFK mail facility, where border agents set the package aside for examination. Inside, they found 13 bags labeled as “Industrial Hemp Tea” and full of a green leafy substance which later tested for marijuana.

Investigators decided to deliver the package to the address on the box, with a postal inspector posing as a mailman.

On June 1st, police said the suspect, 26-year old Carl Peter Hernandez, signed for and received the package at a home on NW Dunmore Avenue.

That same day, acting on a warrant, authorities went to the home to search it. As they knocked on the front door, police said Hernandez ran out the back door. He was caught a short time later. Port St. Lucie Police searched the home and found several substances that tested positive for THC, a rare THC powder, and other drug paraphernalia.

Hernandez is facing charges of possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of more than 20 grams of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
