Port St Lucie Police investigating fatal crash; SUV vs. Moped at SE Airoso Boulevard and SE Lakehurst Drive
Port St. Lucie Police went to the intersection of SE Airoso Boulevard and SE Lakehurst Drive to investigate a crash between a SUV and Moped on June 13 at around 5 PM.
Investigation revealed that a 20 year old male was driving a Tan 1986 Chevrolet SUV. He was heading south on SE Airoso Boulevard. He turned east headed onto SE Lakehurst Drive. At the same time a 51 year old man on a moped was traveling north on SE Airoso Boulevard and entered the intersection of SE Lakehurst Drive.
Witnesses told police that the SUV turned in front of the moped causing the moped to collide into the right side of the SUV. The moped operator was ejected from the moped. This caused massive head and body trauma. Investigation revealed that the moped driver was not wearing a protective helmet at the time of the crash.
The Moped operator was transported by St. Lucie County Fire/Rescue by ground to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The driver of the Chevrolet SUV has been identified as Psi G Russell (DOB 3/14/97, 5710 Myrtle Drive, Fort Pierce)
The driver of the moped who lost his life in the crash has been identified as Scott D Leonard (DOB 10/4/65, 160 SE Todd Avenue, Port St. Lucie).
Port St. Lucie Police Traffic Homicide Investigators are continuing the investigation of this fatal crash.
