PSL Father arrested for trying to stop police from arresting adult son.

On October 3, 2017, Port St. Lucie Police Detectives arrested Dennis Bernard Hansen (9/4/91, 600 block of NE Horizon Lane, Port St. Lucie) on 4 counts of auto burglary and resisting an officer with violence.  Detectives also arrested his father, Dennis Carl Hansen for battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting officer with violence during a burglary investigation.

The investigation began on October 2, 2017. Police received reports of 4 car burglaries located in the 600 block of NE Emerson Street, 300 and 200 blocks of NE Glentry Avenue. The victim told police that she mistakenly left her door unlocked on October 1, 2017.  When she went out to her car the next morning she noticed that someone had rummaged through her car and stole a key to a car she no longer owns and a calendar notebook computer.

Home surveillance camera

Officers noticed that there was a home surveillance camera. They were subsequently showed the video which captured the suspect.  The suspect is a thin built white male with a goatee. He was wearing a fishing hat, camouflage long pants, white short sleeved shirt, and black sneakers. The suspected is seen opening the victim’s car door. Then he entered the vehicle, and rummage through the interior of the car.

That same morning police received three more reports of car burglaries. The burglaries were  in the 200 and 300 block of NE Glentry Avenue and 600 block of NE Emerson Street.  3 additional cars were burglarized.

The investigation

During the investigation, Detective Chunn recognized the suspect in the video as Dennis Bernard Hansen.  Detective Chunn and Detective Penney went to Hansen’s home on NE Horizon Lane to continue their investigation.  As the detectives were interviewing Hansen in the doorway of his house, Hansen’s father interjected himself and began yelling at the detectives.  As the officers attempted to arrest Dennis Bernard Hansen he fled into the house where officers gave chase.  While the detectives where trying to arrest Hansen inside the home, his father interfered by pushing the detective in an attempt to stop the arrest.

Both father and son Hansen were arrested and taken to the St. Lucie County Jail for booking.
