Prescribed burn in Jonathan Dickinson State Park today.
A prescribed burn is scheduled for today in Jonathan Dickinson State Park in Hobe Sound. It will consist of approximately 526 acres of pine flatwoods in the western part of the park.
Prescribed burning mimics natural fire cycles to restore healthy forests and natural communities. It also reduces undergrowth that accumulates over time and decreases the potential for wildfire. Burned lands experience an increase in native wildflowers, birds and other wildlife.
