Port St Lucie Police reminds the public to stay safe when purchasing items online this Holiday Season

The Port St Lucie Police Department would like to remind the public to be safe when meeting with individuals to purchase items found online.  The Port St Lucie Police Department has two parking spaces that are designated “MEETUP SPOTS” in front of the Police Department.  The spots are under 24-hour video surveillance.

This reminder is due to an incident on December 1, 2020.  After arranging to purchase a pair of shoes found on an online marketplace, the victim met with the suspect at the victim’s house.  While in the process of giving the suspect the money ($80.00) for a pair of shoes, the suspect lifted his shirt revealing the handle of a firearm.  In fear, the victim gave the suspect the money who then drove away.

The victim got a picture of the suspect’s car, messaged the suspect that he has his license plate, and called police.  Prior to the arrival of police, the suspect returned and gave the victim his money back, claiming it was a joke.  Port St Lucie Police found the suspect while they were searching the area.  The suspect and victim were both juveniles.  The victim’s parents decided not to press charges.

However; Port St Lucie Police Detectives did arrest the juvenile suspect for breach of peace; disorderly conduct.  This is not a joking matter and we encourage members of the public to use our designated “MEETUP SPOTS”.
