Port St. Lucie Police investigate arson during early morning hours
On September 10, 2019, at around 2:30 am, Port St. Lucie Police along with St. Lucie County Fire/Rescue and State Fire Marshal’s went to the 1800 Block of SW Hickock Avenue, PSL, for reports of a boat (2001 26 ft Seapro and the attached motor) on fire. Fire Marshal determined the fire was intentionally set.
Once on scene, Police witnessed the boat fully engulfed in flames, but Firefighters were able to quickly put out the fire. During the investigation, Police were informed a household member was awaken by an unknown person “pounding” on the front door; alerting them their boat (on the side of their home) was on fire.
Everyone inside of the home had evacuated prior to Police arriving on scene. As Police canvassed the area, they observed surveillance video cameras at a neighboring home. Police were provided the video footage and after viewing it; a vehicle (small light-colored sedan) was seen driving up to the neighbor’s property, an unknown person exited the vehicle and approached the boat, the boat was seen on fire. The unknown person returned to the vehicle and was seen leaving the area. The homeowner explained as the family prepared for Hurricane Dorian, an argument ensued with an unknown male over speeding in the neighborhood. The homeowner mentioned to police that the unknown male’s vehicle matches the vehicle seen on the footage. The boat, engine and corner of the residence sustained extensive damage. No injuries reported. No other homes affected.
