Port St Lucie Police Department investigating the death of a 9-month-old infant

Port St. Lucie, Fl (treasurecoast.com) -On February 10, 2021 at approximately 10:45am Port St Lucie Police responded to the 3000 Blk of SW Nutley St in reference to an infant in full arrest. Upon arrival, Officers found the father performing chest compressions on a 9-month-old infant. Police Officers took over chest compressions until St. Luce County Fire District arrived and pronounced the infant deceased.

Port St Lucie Police Detectives arrived and began conducting a death investigation. Detectives learned that the infant was placed in bed with an older sibling around 10:00pm the previous night February 9, 2021. The infant was found the next morning, face down, in a space between the wall, and bed. There were blankets in the space between the bed and wall, underneath the infant, which appear to have been placed there to fill the gap between the wall and bed.

There were no obvious, outward signs of physical trauma to the infant. There is no evidence at this point to suggest this was a malicious, intentional act. An autopsy is being performed today on the infant.

Family members are cooperating with Detectives. Victim’s Advocates from the Port St Lucie Police Department were present to provide support to the family. Due to the unsanitary conditions of the residence, the fact there are 8 total children living in the residence currently with one parent, and the death of an infant, the Department of Children and Families were notified and responded.

This is an active death investigation; more information will be released as the investigation progresses.
