Plane crash in Northern Indian River County
Indian River County, Fl- A plane crashed Tuesday evening in a heavily-wooded area in Northern Indian River County.
According to police, it was a single-engine Piper PA28.
The plane took off from Vero Beach Regional Airport and was flying to Palm Beach County Glades Airport in Pahokee. It was scheduled to return but never showed up.
The Air Force assisted and helped officials find the general location of where the plane went down, and then a pilot in the Sheriff’s Office’s helicopter spotted the heavily-damaged plane from above at 1:30 p.m.
The Florida Forest Service dispatched two plows to help clear a path to the crash site.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will determine the probable cause of the accident.
