One dead following shooting at Stewart mine

St Lucie County, Fla (Treasurecoast.com) – 911 in St. Lucie County received a telephone call this morning at 9:58 regarding a shooting at Stewart mine in St. Lucie County.

Deputies arrived a short time later. They found a 40-year-old victim on the ground dead from a gunshot wound. The suspect was still on scene he was taken into custody. He is currently at the St. Lucie County Sheriffs office.

Sheriff Ken Mascara announced that the victim has been identified at Lazaro Gonzalez Torres, 58, of Vero Beach.  Stewart Mine is located 13812 Indrio Road.

Update from Sheriff Mascara on the Shooting at Stewart Mine

Sheriff Ken Mascara provides the following update on the shooting incident that occurred on Thursday, January 11th at the Stewart Mine.

“Our investigation has led us to discover a familial relationship between the two individuals involved in the incident. The shooting was not a random act and had no connection to their employer or workplace.  There is a documented history of law enforcement involvement between the two individuals. Our investigation into exactly what happened at the mine and why will continue.”
