 Okeechobee homeowner shoots at burglar

Authorities say a burglar was shot at after homeowners discovered him inside their house. The Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office says a man and his wife arrived at their home on NE 138 Street just before 10pm Tuesday evening and saw their front door wide open. Deputies say the man walked inside the home and retrieved a shotgun. He found the burglar going through their property and confronted him. Officials say the burglar ran out of the back door, and the homeowner fired two shots at him. The man told deputies he wasn’t sure if either of the bullets hit the burglar. Deputies and a K-9 searched the area but couldn’t find the burglar. Authorities describe the man as a Hispanic or white male, with a bald head. He was seen wearing tan shorts and a black hoodie.
