Officer involved shooting in Port St. Lucie

On Friday, November 18, 2016 at 2:18 pm, Port St. Lucie Police went to a house located in the 600 block of SW Colleen Avenue for a disturbance call.  Officers encountered a 25 year old male subject inside the house with a machete.  During the encounter an officer used a taser in an attempt to incapacitate the man.  When this failed a second officer shot the man as he continued to approach with the machete.

The man was taken to a local hospital to be treated for his injuries.  The investigation will be conducted by agents with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

Responding media is requested to stage in the 650 block of SW Heather Street.

Samson Fleurant, black male, 25 years old, 632 SW Colleen Avenue, Port St. Lucie

Officer fired weapon:
K-9 Officer Colin Duncombe, black male, 47 years old, 18 years of service with PSLPD

Officer fired taser:
Officer Kenneth Frid, white male, 47 years old, 11 years of service with PSLPD

Supervisor on scene:
Sergeant Tara Pavlyshin, white female, 44 years old, 15 years of service with PSLPD

District Commander on scene:
Lieutenant Leo Niemczyk, white male, 47 years old, 14 years of service with PSLPD
