The Navy to detonate a Torpedo found in Indian River County

U.S. Navy EOD Jacksonville  detonated a WWII torpedo.

A contractor building a home in the Ocean Ridge subdivision unearthed a military grade unexploded ordnance. The Navy EOD went onsite to evaluate the situation. The ordnance was removed today. It is, as we speak, being towed out in the ocean approximately 1 mile and detonated.

 

All homes within 800 feet of the site was asked to evacuate at 10:00 a.m. They were allowed to return to their homes at 1:00 p.m. Indian River County Sheriff’s Office went door to door beginning at 8:00 a.m. asking those affected to leave the area.
