It’s National Fire Prevention Week.

When it comes to fire, a few seconds can make the difference between life and death. That’s why this year’s National Fire Prevention Week theme is so important. It’s called, “Every Second Counts: Plan 2 Ways Out!” It reinforces why everyone needs to have an escape plan.

Escape Plan

Fire Marshals say to practice your home fire drill twice a year. Conduct one at night and one during the day with everyone in your home, and practice using different ways out. Also make sure the number of your home is clearly marked and easy for the fire department to find. Remember to close doors behind you as you leave, this may slow the spread of smoke, heat, and fire. Perhaps the most important thing to remember, once you get outside, stay outside. Never go back inside a burning building. Fire Marshals often say when people go back in, often times they never return.
