On February 15th, deputies from the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office responded to a fire at 10385 130th Avenue in Fellsmere. Alonzo Sharp (82) was rescued from the fire by his friend Patrick Sullivan (45), who was living with him. Sharp received life threatening injuries as a result of the fire and was transported to Holmes Regional Medical Center then Orlando Regional Medical Center where he passed away last night. Billie Ann Lieberman (52) was also injured in the fire. She received burns to her face and hands and was treated for smoke inhalation.

Indian River County Sheriff, Detective Jeremy Shepherd working in conjunction with State Fire Marshall Shaun Tyson, determined that the fire started as a result of Lieberman’s actions that morning. Lieberman was arrested yesterday on charges of arson and arson resulting in great bodily harm. She is currently being held on one million dollar bond.

Indian River County Sheriff Deryl Loar stated, “Mr. Sharp lost his life because of the actions of Billie Ann Lieberman. It’s a senseless tragedy and we are glad that she is behind bars today where she belongs.” Detectives expect other charges in this case in the near future.
