Missing Ft. Pierce woman found using “Project LOST” technology

Ft Pierce, Fl- A Fort Pierce man is relieved after his wife, who has Alzheimer’s, was located yesterday after wandering from their home for nearly an hour. The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office used special technology to help track her down quickly.

Meet Miss Shirley Cunningham. She is a resident coping with the effects of Alzheimer’s.

Yesterday, she wandered from her home when a caregiver was not looking. But, because she is a part of the Sheriff’s Office L.O.S.T. Program, Miss Cunningham was sporting a locator bracelet and was able to be found safely in less than one hour.

If you have a loved one coping with a cognitive disorder, reach out to our Crime Prevention Unit at 772-871-5303 and learn more about Project L.O.S.T.

Anyone can contact the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office if they want to sign up a loved one for the program. There can be a cost in some cases, but the sheriff’s office has obtained grants and works with donors to make the bracelets as affordable as possible
