Miami Duo charged of stealing more than $100,000 from Asian-American business owners

Port St. Lucie, Fl (treasurecoast.com)- Two suspects have been charged with burglarizing the homes of two Asian American business owners in Port St. Lucie.

PSLPD Detectives have charged 23-year-old Miller Giovanny Salgado Carvajal of Miami and 29-year-old Derly Viviana Vanegas of Doral for burglarizing the homes of two Asian American business owners in Port St. Lucie on September 9th.

The suspects targeted the homes and broke in through the rear patio doors during the day while the victims were at work. Both homes were ransacked, and the suspects disabled the internet and disconnected the power to the alarm panel at one location. The suspects stole a total of $78,000 in jewelry and $25,000 in cash from both houses. These two incidents resemble similar crimes across the country in which organized criminal groups target and burglarize the homes of Asian American business owners.
Salgado Carvajal was arrested on a traffic stop by PSLPD Officers and $14,000 in cash, designer purses, and burglary tools were seized from his vehicle. Vanegas was arrested by the City of Miami Police Department. PSLPD Detectives charged Salgado Carvajal and Vanegas with two counts of burglary to a residence, two counts of criminal mischief, two counts of grand theft, and two counts of unlawful use of a two-way communication device.
The suspects are currently in custody at the St. Lucie County Jail and an immigration detainer has been placed on them by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
