Memorial Day Weekend Detail nets more than twenty arrests

Indian River, Fl- Over the Memorial Day weekend, Deputies from the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office in conjunction with the Florida Highway Patrol, Indian River Shores Public Safety Department, Sebastian Police Department, and Fellsmere Police Department participated in a detail targeting impaired drivers. In total, 263 traffic stops were made, resulting in 17 traffic arrests, 4 drug arrests, and 7 DUI arrests. More than 150 citations were issued as part of this operation.
Detail deputies also located wanted subject Benjamin Carter (44) in possession of crack cocaine, marijuana, unidentified pills, and $1,370.00 in drug money. Carter was wanted on outstanding charges of battery domestic violence, assaulting a law enforcement officer, resisting with violence, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of cocaine, controlled substances, and drug paraphernalia. Carter is being held at the Indian River County Jail without bond.
Indian River County Sheriff Deryl Loar stated, “In conjunction with our partners from the Florida Highway Patrol, Indian River Shores, Sebastian and Fellsmere Police Departments, we conducted a DUI detail throughout our county over Memorial Day Weekend. Totaling more than 25 arrests, we were able to not only take those who were driving under the influence off of our roads, but also arrest others on outstanding warrants. This was a great team effort.”
