MCSO investigating skeletal remains found Monday

Martin County, Fl (treasurecoast.com) -A land survey crew found skeletal remains near Southeast Lillian Court and U.S. 1 south of Stuart Monday, said sheriff’s Chief Deputy John Budensiek.

Deputies received reports that the land surveyors found the bones of an unidentified person near the Emerald Lakes Homes community around 1:40 p.m.

“We do not suspect foul play. It’s near an area where there’s a bunch of homeless people, several homeless camps,” Budensiek said.

He said the surveyors found the skeletal remains near an area of woods where homeless people will often camp and congregate.

Budensiek said based on the clothing and the identifying documents investigators found, they suspect the person who died is a man.

But the deterioration of the body has made it a challenge to immediately identify the person and the time of death, the chief deputy said.

The remains are going to go to the medical examiner’s office and they’re going to have to make a determination as to cause of death … and who we’re dealing with.

Although identifying documents were found on the remains, investigators are waiting until the Medical Examiner’s office can run more tests.

Budensiek said if dental records cannot be found, he is hoping there is some identifying DNA.
