MCSO helps Melbourne Police foil major boat burglary

Melbourne (treasurecoast.com)- Intel from the Martin County Sheriff’s Office helped Melbourne police foil a major boat motor burglary.

Martin County Sheriff’s Detectives have been working to cultivate solid leads in hopes of putting a dent in the ring of traveling boat motor thieves.

The thieves have been targeting boat motors in marinas throughout the Florida Coast, including Martin County. When MCSO detectives learned that the targets were working their way to Melbourne, they contacted detectives there.

Melbourne Police with the assistance of Brevard County Sheriff’s Agents, set up around the location MCSO suspected they might hit.

The take down team watched the thieves work to remove and transport expensive boat motors on vessels docked at a Melbourne marina. The men attempted to flee.  A police K-9 named Brutus was sent in to complete the apprehensions.

All three suspects were charged with multiple felonies. They are expected to face charges in Martin County for similar crimes. The men are identified as 35-year old Amaury Figueredo and 44-year old Osmany Ruiz Moreira, of Miami Gardens, and 40-year old Orelvis Lopez Castillo of Miami.
