MCSO DEPUTY WHO STOPPED TO ASSIST MOTORIST INVOLVED IN A CRASH SEVERELY INJURED AFTER SECONDARY CRASH

Martin County, Fl (treasurecoast.com) -A Martin County Sheriff’s Deputy who stopped to assist a motorist involved in a rollover crash, remains in critical condition after a passing vehicle crashed into the first accident scene. The incident took place on SR 714 (Martin Grade) west of SR 609 just after 1:30am.

Deputy Shawn Green, a 20-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office, stopped to help a person involved in a crash around 1:30 a.m. on State Road 74 west of State Road 69, according to the sheriff’s office. The deputy called dispatchers to report the crash and began to help the occupant of the car.

 When an MCSO Indiantown deputy arrived to the scene, they came upon the deputy laying in the roadway with severe injuries. A second crash had occurred as a result of the first crash, causing severe injuries to the deputy. The deputy was flown to Lawnwood Hospital in critical condition. The driver of the vehicle involved in the subsequent crash was also transported to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Martin County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Shawn Green is in critical condition.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. The name of the deputy will be released at a later time.
