Martin County:13-year-old student arrested for simulating shooting

Martin County, Fla- A 13-year-old student at Anderson Middle School in Martin County was arrested on Thursday. Officials say the sixth-grade student told a classmate he had a gun in his backpack. That classmate then told a teacher, who called the School Resource Officer. The School Resource Officer checked the student’s backpack but there was no weapon. The student told the officer it was “just a joke.” The School Resource Officer let the student go back to class. The student then faked having a weapon and pretended shooting his fellow classmates and teacher. At that point, the 13-year-old was charged with a misdemeanor for disrupting a school function. Superintendent Laurie Gaylord said that the school district was on a heightened state of alert, and are taking this matter very seriously.
