Martin County first responders save woman and her dog in sinking car

Martin County, Fl(treasurecoast.com)- A Martin County firefighter and deputy saved a woman and her dog trapped inside her car that was sinking into a canal on southwest Farm Road Tuesday night.

After pulling out the woman, the first responders went back inside the car and rescued her dog.

MCSO Sergeant Anthony Blachowski arrived at the crash and saw the woman trapped inside the sinking vehicle. He removed his duty gear and jumped in the water. Blachowski was able to punch out the window and bring the driver to safety. The young woman then told deputies that her dog Hendrix was still inside the car. That’s when Sergeant Blachowski and MCFR EMT Dan McCarthy jumped back in the water and worked their way back to the vehicle. Fortunately, they were able to secure the dog and get him to safety. The female driver was transported to the hospital for observation. The dog was not injured.
