11:11 a.m. is representative of the end of WW1, when an armistice was signed at eleven o’clock in the morning on the eleventh day of the eleventh month. Originally, Veterans Day was called Armistice Day, signaling the end of WWI. After WWII, Armistice Day became what is today, a day in which we honor all American veterans

More than 14,000 veterans call Martin County home and Veteran’s Day provides an opportunity to publicly thank and honor service men and women in our community and nationwide. The original concept for the celebration of our heroes in 1919 was a day observed with parades and public meetings. Martin County is proud to continue that tradition to this day with a parade and ceremony organized by the Veterans Council of Martin County, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing services to all Martin County military veterans.
