Martin Clerk hosts Operation Green Light for extended period to offer relief to those with overdue court costs

STUART—For anyone who owes money on overdue court obligations, feels helpless as the late fees rise higher, and can’t afford to settle the debt and reinstate a suspended driver license, we have good news.

The Martin County Clerk of Circuit Court & Comptroller is slashing prices. (And we don’t get to say that very often.)

Operation Green Light allows anyone with overdue court costs to settle their financial obligations and have all associated collection surcharges waived—a savings of at least 25 percent.

Due to COVID-19 precautions, this year’s event is virtual, making it easier to access than ever. It applies to traffic tickets, too. Once outstanding fees are paid (payment plans can be established as well), individuals will be eligible for reinstatement of their driver license.

“Operation Green Light is always a welcome event but right now we believe the timing couldn’t be better,” says Carolyn Timmann, Martin County Clerk of Circuit Court & Comptroller. “The pandemic, economic conditions and overall uncertainty have been difficult on everyone, so we extended this grace period for as long as we could to give as many people as possible an opportunity to save money and start fresh.”

What: Operation Green Light Virtual Event by Martin County Clerk of the Circuit Court – A Driver License Reinstatement Days Event.

When: November 16 – 20, 2020

Where: Virtually, Courthouse Constitutional Complex, 100 S.E. Ocean Blvd., Stuart.

Who: Individuals with a suspended driver license due to outstanding court financial obligations who want to save on fees and have their license reinstated.

Contact: Compliance Division (772) 221-2306 or compliance@martinclerk.com.

The savings are significant: A speeding ticket—for going 10-15 mph over the limit—with late fees could cost you $206. By taking part in Operation Greenlight, that cost could drop by as much as 40 percent — or $82.40!

During the 2019 Operation Green Light statewide:

  • 1,782 driver licenses were reinstated
  • 9,849 driver licenses were made eligible for reinstatement
  • 10,264 cases were paid in full
  • 22,502 cases were placed on a payment plan
  • 21,898 cases were removed from collection agencies
  • 87 cases were given community service
  • $2.7 million was collected, including:
    •  $1.1 million to be distributed to the state
    •  $673,589 to be distributed to local governments
    •  $962,705 to be distributed to Clerks of Court

Now is the time to settle your court debt, reinstate a suspended driver license and get back your peace of mind.

Payments must be made in full and apply only to Martin County court costs. Payment methods include cash, cashier’s check, money order or major credit card (which includes a convenience fee of 3.5 percent).
