Man who threatened his mother with a knife on the run in Martin County

Martin County, Fl (treasurecoast.com)- The Martin County Sheriff has reported that a man that threatened his mother with a knife is on the run.

This is what they said:

The Martin County Sheriff’s Office is currently searching for a man who fled from the area near the 1400 block of Federal Highway in Jensen Beach. He is identified as 39-year old Derek Justin Prevett of Stuart.
Prevett was reportedly involved in a domestic dispute with his mother and used a knife as a means to threaten her. He fled the area on foot and was seen in the woods not far from that location. Deputies have a wide perimeter set up and are actively looking for Prevett. Prevett is 6’2” and about 170lbs. If you see him, please call 911.
Information on such incidents is always fluid and may change from hour to hour, so as a precaution, the Sheriff’s Office has ordered a lockout for Felix Williams Elementary School and Jensen Beach High School until further notice.
The Sheriff’s Office is in communication with the school district, and will keep the lockouts in place until further notice. Again, there was no direct threat to either school, and the lockouts were ordered by law enforcement as a precautionary measure. SROs are in place at those schools.

Update

Dismissal of students from Felix Williams Elementary School and Jensen Beach High School is complete.
Derek Prevett has not yet been located and it is unknown if he is still in the area. The Martin County Sheriff’s Office will keep additional personnel at both schools throughout the day tomorrow as a precaution and to ease any concerns students and parents may have.
